I've been thinking about starting the "DIY Musician" blog for a while now. In my ten years as an independent musician, I've made many mistakes, learned things the hard way, and gained knowledge through failures. Although I've had some success, I felt that I lacked guidance. I've read numerous books and scoured the web for useful information, but I still felt like something was missing. So here it is - a collection of posts I like to call "I wish I knew when I just started." Considering that at the moment I'm restarting my whole music career, but already have some experience behind me, I thought now would be the perfect time!
Most of what I'll share here is based on my personal experience. I'll also discuss the resources and tools that have been useful to me so you can try them out and create your own toolkit. Your way of doing things will undoubtedly be different. This blog will be helpful on your creative journey!
If you're wondering where to start, begin with your music! Take some time to get clear on what kind of music you love and can create right now. Where would be the most compatible place to share it? Songs on all the music platforms? Beats on BeatStars? DJ-mixes on MixCloud? Maybe it's your website full of production music? Don't get lost in all the details! These two simple questions with a few short, clear answers written down - that is the starting point.
You are ready! Now, go and make this kind of music. Collect your first tracks, give them time, and don't release them yet! That's okay if some of them will stay unreleased, by the way. Just get going, make as many as you are inspired to, and don't rush. We'll talk about what's next really soon, my friend. No matter what kind of music career you dream of building, it always starts with your music. So, catch the vibe - the path will reveal itself.
Be well, stay tuned!
